A little about Eagle Lake and the area:
Eagle Lake is located at the juncture of four major geologic provinces. To the west and south is the Sierra Nevadas. To the west and north are the Cascade Mountains, which run through California, Oregon, and Washington, and up into Canada. This Lake covers more than 22,000 acres and has over 100 miles of shoreline. The lake sits in a closed drainage basin with no outlet and only limited surface water flowing into it.
Eagle Lake is at an elevation of approximately 5100 feet.
There are numerous campgrounds around the lake and several walking and bike trails. Eagle Lake is the only watershed to support native Eagle Lake trout, which grow to very large sizes, and can easily exceed 10 lbs. Eagle Lake trout are red fleshed and are delicious!
There is a local marina – Eagle Lake Recreation Area. Located on the south shore of Eagle Lake just 16 miles north of Susanville. It is a full-service Marina and developed campsites keep you from having to leave the comforts of home behind.
